The SVYC offers creative and flexible support services to youth living in Vancouver. Youth may be MCFD referred or come on a drop-in basis. Using a combination of one-to-one outreach services, and on site group workshops, our Youth workers can provide the support necessary to help youth achieve their goals, learn new skills and become more self-sufficient in the community.

TRANSITION TO ADULTHOOD
Youth Workers assist youth ages 12 to 18 years in developing skills necessary for independent living. The youth may be living at home, in foster or group care, or independently on a Youth Agreement. The type of support will vary depending on their home situations and individual needs. Youth will be encouraged to identify specific goals which will be incorporated into their Service Delivery Plan. These goals will focus on learning the skills associated with independent living, self-sufficiency, and adult responsibilities. Assistance is available in the following areas:
• budgeting • money management • access to recreation • pre-employment skills • communication and social skills • access to health services • access to addiction services • advocacy |
• meal planning • shopping/cooking • securing identification • employment search • self-care • access to educational programs • teen parenting |
HOUSING SUPPORT & ASSISTANCE
Housing Support and Assistance is available through MCFD referral or on a drop-in basis. Many resources are available at the SVYC Resource Room to assist youth in finding housing, learning about tenant rights and responsibilities, and setting up and maintaining their home. As well, workshops and individual support are also available. Assistance is available in the following areas:
• housing search/set-up • tenancy rights/ responsibilities • budgeting for rent/expenses • household maintenance |
• communication with landlords • arranging utilities • tenancy agreements • intent to Rent forms |

1. WHAT PROGRAMS AND SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE?
Youth Workers can help youth in the following areas: life skills development, housing search and set-up, access to suitable school programs, access to health services, advocacy, securing ID, budgeting, resume preparation and employment searches, finding community and peer connections, and parenting skills for teens..
2. HOW DO I ACCESS SERVICES?
Some services require a MCFD referral but youth are encouraged to come to SVYC if they are interested in any service or program. Youth Workers can assist youth in accessing community services or, if necessary, initiate a referral to a program at SVYC or any of the other Youth Centres in the city.
3. WHEN ARE SERVICES AVAILABLE?
The SVYC provides a variety of programs and services from MON – FRI 9:00am to 6:30pm, with 24 hour telephone support available to MCFD referred clients.
4. WHERE ARE THE SERVICES OFFERED?
SVYC is located at 4920 Fraser St, Vancouver and Youth Workers are available to connect with youth at SVYC or on an outreach basis in the community.
